Hundreds residents in the east coasts of Malita in Davao Del Sur, Mati City in Davao Oriental, and Tandag in Surigao Del Sur moved to higher grounds due to the tsunami alert issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) after the massive earthquake in Chile. Residents forced to evacuate homes and livelihood.
Big waves also hit the coastal area in the village of Kidalapong, forcing at least a hundred people to evacuate to higher grounds. Most people stayed awake at night due to the warning and some stayed in Town halls for shelter.
